Character Information
Name: The Doctor, in his 11th regeneration in the Doctor Who canon. In SH!verse, his name is John Smith (Lungbarrow), but he barely registers it as his name.
Canon Origin/Series: Doctor Who
Teaching Position and why it suits them: Muggle Studies - The Doctor probably is too all over the place to actually be a great teacher. However what he does love to see is the light in people's eyes when they figure things outalmost by themselves, with just a little help from him. He loves guiding people into knowledge, understanding, whatever word you would like to use. And what he loves most is the human race, it interests him to no end. Especially muggles, because they are so strange and hard to place and absolutely facinating. Not to mention children, the part of the human race he loves the most and he wishes they just never would grow up, how easy it is for them to learn and how open they are to things and how perceptive they can be.
Suitability: The Doctor is highly unpredictable and some might consider him very unstable and dangerous. He is, however, highly aware about what he is doing and would never hurt anyone, less a child, on purpose.
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Out of school living location: Northampton, UK
Blood status: Pureblood
Personality:The Doctor is definitely mad.
With that said, it should be pointed out that he is fairly harmless. He is somewhat scatterbrained, and he almost never makes any sense but that is probably mostly because he rambles. And he rambles. A lot. It's how the Doctor finds things out, how he deducts; his mind works so fast that he himself doesn't really follow, making the rambling his way of sorting out his thoughts, his way of remembering the things he has noticed without really noticing. Through his rambling, he goes through all the facts, the possibilities and solutions. Not necessarily in a order that makes sense though.
The rambling just proves how quick and energetic he is. He rarely stands completely still, always looking for a new puzzle or adventure or mystery. He loves the thrill of the hunt, and couldn't be happier when standing in the middle of the storm. The Doctor puts himself, and the genius that he is, highly above everyone and everything. He looks down on ordinary humans, is highly critical of them and sees the flaws of the human race and wants it to become better. Since he can't express himself like a normal person would or empathize with people, he comes across as very alien, especially when he puts himself and humans in different categories while speaking. He can come across as very mean without himself noticing, saying things that should be so obviously a rude remark but he himself doesn't see it. Sometimes though, he says these things to be mean and to hurt. When the Doctor gets angry, it is like an explosion. He is prone to quite violent, sudden outbursts and can give quite mean half-yelled scolding lectures. In canon, he is shown to kick things, or well, things that appear quite innocent except looking like his most deadly of enemies, just because they don't answer his questions like he wants them too. Instead of getting sad over most things, he gets judgemental and frustrated and very, very cold, even to his friends.
The Doctor is, however, very kind. Though not very noticable as his kindness comes in strange and eccentric forms, sometimes perhaps not the most noticable. He cares deeply for people, especially when it comes to children. In one episode, Amy Pond says "What if you were really old, and really kind and lonely, your whole race dead. What couldn't you do then? If you were that old, and that kind, and the very last of your kind, you couldn't just stand there and watch children cry", describing a star whale, but she was also talking about the Doctor; earlier in the same episode, he tries to comfort a lonely crying child even though he himself had just said that he and Amy shouldn't interfere. And while he himself often says that he lacks humanity, this regeneration of the Doctor is very willing to open himself to people, seeking casual contact and enjoying having friends. The losses that his previous regenerations had to go through seem to no longer affect him, though it should be noted that this Doctor shows his anger and frustrations much more.
Summa summarum: The Doctor is a mad alien, with a short fuse and a God Complex. He finds flaws in humans, and sometimes even in himself, and can be extremely judgemental and cold when he thinks you've done something wrong and he can lie. He is kind and loving towards his friends. He loves children, and he never wants to see them cry, and he also loves the human race, even though he can see all of it's faults, and maybe that is why he loves it. And though he is very, very alien he is also very, very human, with all his emotions and flaws and worries.
Canon Background: For history concerning the Eleventh Doctor specifically
For history about the character The Doctor, in all his incarnations
Background (AU!Canon; HP): [sayonara] The Doctor was born John Lungbarrow to two purebloods of the ancient wizarding house of Gallifrey, rumoured to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, in the United kingdom. The different branches of the family were all closely knit, all having a main mansion of their own hidden by charms and spells in Northamptonshire. Rarely truly interacting with other wizards, even other purebloods, or interfering with the problems of the wizarding world, they were by some considered to be a weird, almost sect-like family.
John Lungbarrow grew up normally for that kind of environment. He was an energetic and highly intelligent child, but he wasn't as strange as he later became in life. At the age of 8, he went to be homeschooled by some of the elders of their house, together with the rest of the children of Gallifrey. During this, he made a friend named Harold, who just like him enjoyed reading about the muggle world, about its history and customs, and they gave each other nicknames; John became the Doctor, due to his interest in Muggle medicine(which he actually found hilarious) as well as in helping people, while Harold, who wanted to rule over everything, became the Master.
Their friendship lasted into their Hogwarts time, even though John was sorted into Ravenclaw while Harold became a Slytherin. Eventually the two of them started to grow apart by their fourth year; John disliked Harold's views on the world, and the way he manipulated people. By the time they graduated, their friendship had grown into some kind of rivalry about who was the best(not the easiest for either of them; they both had very high grades).
The year after leaving Hogwarts, John travelled the world, learning about both wizarding history as well as muggle history. His studies turned into a near obsession with the muggle life style; something he soon became an expert on (as much as a pureblooded wizard can).
After his return to England, he started working at the Department of Mysteries with, to his chagrin, Harold. The school days rivalry continued as they worked with time turners, and experiments surrounding time.
During one of these experiments, that both John and Harold were part in, an accident occured, leaving John and Harold very changed. Harold was the one who changed the most, his temper suddenly exploding in sudden flares and with abnormal ideas in his mind, the childhood desire to rule over everything took a more twisted turn and he really did become the Master, throwing aside the identity of Harold forever. Running amok in the department of mysteries, the Master only looked for one person; The Doctor.
John, who felt like he was the Doctor and John at the same time, had also changed. His feelings now seemed to change with ultra-rapid speed, and the strangeness of noticing almost everything around him made him almost as unstable as the Master. But he still only wanted to help people, save them, and so decided to stop his rival. And he tried, almost succeeding so many times, until the other seemed to simply just vanish into thin air. John wanted more than anything to continue looking for him, but when the climate between all the Gallifreyan families turned sour he decided to return home.
The reason for this clash was Lord Voldemort. Parts of the clan were horrified by his acts. Others supported him wholeheartedly, and some became Death Eaters. Nearing the end of the war, the split had turned into a violent, internal battle in the family, where even siblings killed each other. John stayed outside the whole thing as much as he could, but it was hard. He saw what he hated the most right in front of him, and it hurt. It burned and he only wanted the whole thing to be over. And it ended. In the worst way possible. A final battle took place, and in the end John saw his childhood home burn, the Lungbarrow family except him all dead.
After this, he became somewhat bitter. He stopped giving people second chances. He still wanted to help people, so much, but only if they wanted it, and only if they could help themselves as well. Finally, he too left the name "John Lungbarrow", changed it to John Smith for official reasons, but adopted the name the Doctor full time.
Due to the time-turner accident, and the suspicious deaths of the Lungbarrow family, the Doctor had earned a really bad and strange reputation, making people believe that he was an unstable man who belonged at St. Mungo's. He didn't really care for it, people could assume whatever they wanted about him and he wouldn't lift an eyebrow. He only wanted to work on a project of his; a old muggle police box, that he claimed he experimented with expanding charms on. In fact, he had stolen some time-turner technology during his Ministry time and wanted to find a more stable and easy way to time travel. The Doctor now affectionately calls this box "his wife", which probably unnerves some.
However, one day out of the blue, Dumbledore offered him a job as a Muggle Studies teacher at Hogwarts. After some consideration, and some prodding from an old man with a beard, the Doctor accepted.[livejournal]

Hello, Hogwarts! Writing is boring, and I much rather prefer hearing my own voice instead! I'm the Doctor, and I'll be teaching you all about muggles. Which I know more about than anyone else, including the muggles themselves. I expect everyone to choose this subjects, since not liking muggles and not wanting to know more about them is idiotic and stupid and dull.
And yes, I very much planned to talk instead of write. I just didn't know it when I started writing. Or I did, just not consciously, which is an excellent way of doing things.
